Participants invited for CCNA Routing and Switching course at Curtin Malaysia

Miri – 27 November 2018 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is offering a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching course at its campus for those looking to develop industry-ready skills, advance their careers in information and communication technology (ICT), or build a foundation to pursue relevant degree programmes.

Hosted by its Faculty of Engineering and Science and coordinated by its consultancy arm Curtin Biovalley Sdn. Bhd. (formerly known as Curtin Consultancy (M) Sdn. Bhd.) and a registered training provider with HRDF, the course will commence this 8 December 2018.

Those interested to participate can register with Curtin Biovalley Sdn. Bhd. before 30 November 2018. The course fee is RM2,000 nett per level.

The course curriculum features four levels (Introduction to Networks, Routing and Switching Essentials, Scaling Networks and Connecting Networks) and will comprise lecture sessions, lab sessions, online chapter exams, online final exams and skill-based final exams.

Each level will consist of six days of classes for a total duration of 24 days. Classes will be conducted from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays, allowing flexibility for working adults to manage their work and study commitments.

Conducting the course will be two highly-experienced certified CCNA trainers and lecturers of electrical and computer engineering from the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Foad Motalebi and Veeramani Shanmugam.

According to Foad, the Cisco Networking Academy© CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum is designed for those who are seeking entry-level ICT jobs or plan to pursue more specialised ICT skills.

“The CCNA Routing and Switching course provides comprehensive coverage of networking topics, from fundamentals to advanced applications and services, with opportunities for hands-on practical experience and career skills development,” he said.

Foad added that participants of the course will be prepared to take the Cisco CCENT® certification exam after completing two levels and the CCNA® Routing and Switching certification exam after completing all four levels.

Level 1 (Introduction to Networks) will introduce participants to aspects such as devices and services used to support communications in data networks and the Internet, the role of protocol layers in data networks, the importance of addressing and naming schemes at various layers of data networks in IPv4 and IPv6 environments.

They will learn to design, calculate, and apply subnet masks and addresses to fulfill given requirements in IPv4 and IPv6 networks, build a simple Ethernet network using routers and switches, and use Cisco command-line interface (CLI) commands to perform basic router and switch configurations.

In Level 2 (Routing and Switching Essentials), participants will determine how a router will forward traffic based on the contents of a routing table, explain how switching operates in a small to medium-sized business network, and use monitoring tools and network management protocols to troubleshoot data networks.

They will also learn how to implement access control lists (ACLs) to filter traffic, configure and troubleshoot VLANs and routing with static route and RIPv2, and describe the operations of Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv4 and IPv6.

Meanwhile, in Level 3 (Scaling Networks), they will be taught how to configure and troubleshoot DHCP and DNS operations for IPv4 and IPv6, describe the operations and benefits of the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), configure and troubleshoot STP operations, and describe the operations and benefits of link aggregation and Cisco VLAN Trunk Protocol (VTP).

In addition, they will learn to configure and troubleshoot basic operations of routers in a complex routed network for IPv4 and IPv6 and advanced operations of routers, and implement RIP, OSPF, and EIGRP routing protocols for IPv4 and IPv6, as well as manage Cisco IOS® Software licensing and configuration files.

Lastly, in Level 4 (Connecting Networks), the participants will describe the operations and benefits of virtual private networks (VPNs) and tunnelling and different WAN technologies and their benefits; configure and troubleshoot serial connections, broadband connections, and IPSec tunneling operations; as well as monitor and troubleshoot network operations using syslog, SNMP, and NetFlow. They will also learn to design network architectures for borderless networks, data centres, and collaboration.
