Curtin Malaysia’s third trimester foundation intake gives potential students more flexibility

Miri – 19 October 2018 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is now offering a third trimester for its foundation programmes commencing from 3 December 2018.

The trimester intake gives potential students, both domestic and international, the option to enrol in the foundation programme of their choice immediately without having to wait for the semester intake in March. It also allows students more flexibility in terms of study periods.

Curtin Malaysia, Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia, which also happens to be the largest Australian international campus in the world, offers one-year foundation programmes in Engineering, Science, Commerce and Arts (Media) that feed directly into its undergraduate courses in engineering and science, business and humanities.

All undergraduate courses at Curtin Malaysia are identical to those at Curtin’s main campus in Perth and offered at affordable Malaysian fees. There is no difference in the degrees earned as all degrees are conferred by Curtin University. Furthermore, students at Curtin Malaysia can transfer to the main campus or Curtin’s other international campuses in Singapore, Dubai or Mauritius to complete their degrees if they choose to do so.

Curtin Malaysia’s Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Beena Giridharan commented that the new model not only offers another window for enrolment that might be better suited to potential students’ needs, but also allows Curtin Malaysia to better address the current needs of its foundation students.

“Some students, especially international students, desire greater flexibility to balance their study and lifestyle commitments so that they can make the most of their student experience here,” said Professor Giridharan.

The foundation programmes at Curtin Malaysia are designed for school leavers to gain the essential skills and knowledge for a smooth transition to tertiary study, providing the best possible fundamentals to undertake a Bachelor’s degree. All are recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Students who pass the Foundation Studies in Commerce can enter the Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce (with both single and double majors) at its Faculty of Business, while those completing the Foundation Studies in Arts can enter the Faculty of Humanities’ Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) programme.

Meanwhile, the Foundation Studies in Engineering and Foundation Studies in Science courses prepare students for undergraduate study in the Bachelor of Engineering (with Honours), Bachelor of Technology (Computer Systems & Networking); and Bachelor of Science (Applied Geology) programmes. They also qualify to enrol in the Bachelor of Business Administration; Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts programmes.

School leavers with outstanding results in their examinations are advised to take advantage of the Curtin Malaysia Foundation Scholarships and Curtin Malaysia Merit Scholarships for entry into the foundation programmes. The scholarships aim to reward academic excellence among students from all backgrounds where they will enjoy significant tuition fee waivers. Full details can be obtained at
