Curtin Malaysia supporting SPM students with distribution of SPM revision guides

Miri – 29 August 2018 - Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) has begun distributing copies of its customised SPM Revision Guide 2018 to SPM students to secondary schools in Sarawak, a community service it has been carrying out over the last three years in support of students preparing for the all-important examinations.

Among the latest schools to receive copies were SMK Lutong and SMK Chung Hua Miri which were represented by teachers Diana Luhong and Evelyn Mau Stanley, and Wong Chie Kiong, respectively. Presenting them the guides was Curtin Malaysia’s associate director of marketing and communications, Dinesh Rajenthiran.

Nationwide distribution of 10,000 copies of the revision guides will cover a total of 103 partner schools in Sarawak, Sabah and West Malaysia over the coming weeks.

The 144-page revision guide is published in collaboration with Afterschool.my, Malaysia’s number one higher education website with over 4 million visitors yearly. The newly-released SPM Revision Guide 2018 is the 11th edition of the popular study guide.

Compiled by teachers with more than 20 years of experience, the comprehensive book of SPM model questions helps students prepare to score well in their examinations. Equipped with model questions based on past years’ SPM examinations, the revision guide covers 10 subjects – Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, History, Science, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Principles of Accounting.

It also features tips to excel in each subject, including key ideas and concepts to help students understand the marking criteria and how best to maximise the effectiveness of their answers.

“Our SPM revision guides have been very popular with our partner schools, and we’re one of only a few higher learning institutions doing this annually. Many teachers and students have told us that it is an invaluable tool in their exam preparations, and we are more than happy to continue providing them free to their SPM students for the fourth year,” said Dinesh.

Dinesh added that the revision guide provides challenging questions that encourage students to gain a deeper understanding in the subjects, motivating them to keep trying until they are able to answer them, and thus helping them build confidence and be well prepared for the examinations.

Meanwhile, Curtin Malaysia Pro Vice-Chancellor. President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski said there is no shortcut to success and SPM students need sufficient preparation as well as good study habits and strategies in order to approach the examinations with confidence. He also hoped that the complimentary revision guide would be a great help to their preparations for the examinations.

He also encouraged them to seriously consider a higher education after the SPM, highlighting that they can get a world-class tertiary education right at their doorstep at Curtin Malaysia, the world’s largest Australian international campus and also Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia.

Curtin University is a global university recognised as being in the top one per cent of universities in the world in the highly-regarded Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2017. Consequently, it is possible for our students to transfer to any of Curtin's other campuses to complete their undergraduate degrees, or take up further degrees, once they have become fully enrolled Curtin degree students.
