The John Curtin Leadership Academy (JCLA) is Curtin University’s prestigious co-curricular leadership program, delivered through Curtin Sarawak Leadership & Entrepreneurship Centre.

About JCLA
The John Curtin Leadership Academy (JCLA) is Curtin University’s prestigious co-curricular leadership program, delivered through the Curtin Sarawak Leadership & Entrepreneurship Centre.
Students undertake co-curricular leadership training and further develop their skills and abilities through working on real community projects. The program is based on the three values exemplified by former Australian Prime Minister, John Curtin: Leadership, Vision and Community Service.

Program overview
Participation in JCLA enhances your student experience and provides you with a range of opportunities including: developing your leadership skills, gaining real-world experience, boosting your employability and making an impact in your community.
The program is completed over one semester and there is a commitment for all participants to attend all elements of the program, this includes:
A four day leadership camp
Six leadership workshops
Completion of a team based community project with a not-for-profit organisation
Weekly commitment of approximately 5-7 hours
Graduation Ceremony.

Team-based community project
Participants form small teams and undertake a community project. The projects have a significant impact in the community and allow you to gain practical experience in teamwork, time management, project management, problem solving, conflict resolution, effective decision making, public speaking and self-awareness.
Teams present their achievements and key learning’s to an invited audience of industry leaders, from corporate, government and not-for profit sectors at the Graduation Ceremony.
